The primary role of robots is to retrieve, transport, and return bins within the grid, enabling goods to be picked or replenished at ports. The robots are the only moving mechanical components inside the grid, which is a key reason for AutoStore’s high reliability and storage density.

The WMS never communicates directly with AutoStore robots or controls their movements.

The WMS issues logical requests via the AutoStore Interface API. It is the AutoStore Controller that interprets these requests and determines all robot routing and movement. The robots only execute the resulting commands and have no awareness of the WMS, orders, or warehouse logic.
