Bin Interface
Concept
- The Bin Interface offers integration at a lower level and gives the WMS more control over the process.
- When using the Bin Interface, the WMS specifies the exact Bin sequence at all Ports and handles the Bin grouping.
- The WMS plans the jobs for each Port, taking on a greater responsibility for the system's performance.
- The Bin Interface requires the WMS to handle many optimizations that are usually provided by the Task Interface.- The Bin Interface offers integration at a lower level and gives the WMS more control over the process.
In Practice
The WMS specifies a preparation queue with Bins that should be prepared for use (i.e. placed in a position
where they are readily accessible).
For each Port, the WMS specifies a Port queue that defines the Bins that should be delivered to the Port.
Therefore, the WMS must handle the grouping of Bins and resolve conflicts when the same Bin is needed at
several Ports. The WMS must consider the physical positions and preparation status of the Bins in order to
achieve optimum performance.
